1. Project Overview

Title:
CBF Stall Locations – Case Study

Client:
This project was created as a free service for the public, with no formal client requesting it. The goal was to assist visitors to the Chennai Book Fair (CBF) 2025.

Objective:
The public visiting the Chennai Book Fair (CBF) 2025 faced challenges navigating the large number of stalls. To make navigation easier, we developed a stall location solution to enhance the visitor experience and simplify the process of finding specific stalls.

2. Challenges

Developing a solution to display over 750 individual stalls while making the interface intuitive and easy to navigate presented several challenges:

  1. Large Layout Management: Organizing over 750 stalls in a way that’s visually clear and easy to navigate was difficult.
  2. Stall Highlighting: Providing a seamless way for users to search for and highlight a specific stall upon request.
  3. Dynamic Interaction: Creating an interactive feature where clicking a stall number would open a popup displaying relevant information.
  4. User Experience: Ensuring that the navigation system works smoothly and is user-friendly for all visitors.

3. Solutions Provided

To address the challenges, we implemented the following technical solutions:

  1. Stall Layout Creation: A complete layout of over 750 stalls was created. Each stall was represented by a separate HTML container, allowing us to manage and control each individually.

  2. Interactive Stall Highlighting: We added interactivity by assigning a unique identifier to each stall using a data attribute, which allowed users to select a specific stall.

  3. Popup Display Mechanism: When a user clicked on a stall number, a fixed container was used to display more information. Initially, this popup container’s display was set to none, but JavaScript triggered it to appear once the stall was clicked.

  4. JavaScript Integration: JavaScript was utilized to dynamically retrieve the data-stall value of the clicked element and match it to the corresponding CSS class for the stall. This helped highlight the selected stall.

  5. CSS Highlighting: A special CSS class (highlighted) was added to both the data-stall value and the corresponding HTML container, making the stall visually stand out.

4. Results & Impact

  • The project was highly successful and made it significantly easier for visitors to navigate the Chennai Book Fair 2025.
  • The solution provided clear, interactive navigation for more than 750 stalls, allowing users to quickly find specific stalls and access relevant information.
  • As a result, over 5,000 people expressed their satisfaction with the navigation system, praising its ease of use and time-saving benefits.
  • The layout and interactive system improved the overall experience for book lovers at the fair, making it a more enjoyable event for all visitors.
